Hollywood, CA - "The Other Guys," the cop buddy movie starring Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg from Sony Pictures beat "Inception" at the box office this weekend. The comedy pulled in $35.6 million and put to ease any concerns over Ferrell's box-office duds after the disaster that was "Land of the Lost." There's still enough interest surrounding "Inception" to drive the Warner Bros. movie to second place with $18.6 million. The "Step Up 3D" didn't make anyone want to dancetaking in only $15.5 million in its first weekend.

 If you think some cops are cocky or a little wierd, these guys define both terms in the new movie The Other Guys, now in a theater near you.

The Sony Pictures flick, starring Will Ferrell, and Mark Wahlberg, sped to the top of the daily boxoffice rankings with an around $13.2 million from its first day in movie theaters on Friday. and it will tickle your funny bone and then some. 

It is not your ordinary shootem' Up copy movie like Bruce Willis, who survives gun blasts and exposions, and steps on broken glass barefoot. No, this is a comedy about a day in the life of two mismatched New York Detectives trying to take a bite out of crime. There are so many stars and so many action scenes, it's unstoppable.

            Los Angeles —In a new report released today, the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation (LAEDC) projects the U.S. economy will grow by 3.1 percent in 2010 and by 2.9 percent in 2011 after contracting by 2.4 percent in 2009. The report also shows that employment will grow through year end 2010, and the nation’s unemployment rate will decline slowly, reaching the nine percent range by the end of 2011.

            According to the “2010-2011 Economic Forecast and Industry Outlook: Mid-Year Update” report produced by the LAEDC’s Kyser Center for Economic Research, California’s recovery will be led by tourism, international trade, technology, and television and film production.

            “We are seeing a measured recovery under way,” said the Kyser Center’s Chief Economist and report co-author, Dr. Nancy Sidhu. “Automotive and housing-related purchases and business investment in equipment will contribute to the recovery as well, but consumer spending holds one of the keys to the overall economic outlook.”

            Tourism will see an increase in 2010 and 2011, as more people visit the region and stay in hotels in the area. The outlook for the Los Angeles region’s large tourist industry is improving, albeit slowly. Most local theme parks, such as Universal Studios Hollywood, Knott’s Berry Farm and Disneyland and Disney’s California Adventures, have new attractions opening this year or plans for major park improvements. With the opening of the new hotels at L.A. Live, the City of Los Angeles has booked several major business shows. In Los Angeles County, the hotel occupancy rate is about 69.7 percent compared with 65.5 percent in 2009.

The region’s famed motion picture/television production industry got off to a good start this year as well. Domestic box office receipts were up strongly over the year, the state film production incentive plan was well received, and television networks, both broadcast and cable, produced a number of pilots and series. Jobs in the entertainment industry started to rebound at the end of 2009, and for 2010, an increase of 16,900 jobs is estimated in the motion picture and sound recording sector in Los Angeles County..

County economy. Kyser will retire from full time work, but will remain as a consultant to the organization.
The LAEDC’s economic research department, the Kyser Center for Economic Research, will continue under the leadership of Chief Economist, Dr. Nancy Sidhu, to provide critical economic analysis and insight on topics related to the L.A. County economy, as well as produce unbiased analytical research about the industry sectors leading the Southern California five-County economy.

HOUSTON – Nuttin’ But Stringz’ international urban rock violin duo Damien and Tourie Escobar brought music lovers to their their feet Friday night(April 26, 2010) at the Hobby Center’s Zilkha Hall. The Emmy award-winning brother’s unique fusion of rock urban hip hop and classical music touched the hearts of nearly 300 people, who gathered in support of the American Heart Association’s Power To End Stroke movement, an initiative that empowers people to reduce their risk for stroke and educates communities on the importance of prevention. In between electrifying sets, the brothers shared their rise from the rough and dangerous streets of Jamaica Queens, NY, as well as their close connection to heart disease. The pair’s mother, aunt and grandparents have all suffered from various forms of heart disease and stroke, while Damien Escobar himself has a murmur that is checked regularly.

One hundred percent of the funds raised for the Power of Legacy Soiree, chaired by Merele Yarborough, will directly impact the health initiatives of the African-American community in Houston and increase awareness about the risks, signs and symptoms of stroke, the nation’s number three killer, which impacts African-Americans more than any other ethnic group.

Honorees that evening included: Ralph Holmes of Aetna,Kirk Franklin and Judy and Wayne McConnell, who were recognized for their support of the Power to End Stroke campaign since its inception four years ago. Each of the honorees encouraged the audience to lead by example, and to make a pledge to incorporate simple lifestyle changes into their daily lives, which could significantly reduce the risk of stroke. , “

Los Angeles, CA - Just got off the phone with the manager of Nuttin’ But Stringz, who is stranded along with thousands of airline passengers in Europe due to the Iceland Volcano eruption. Not since 9-11 or Mount Saint Helens (May 18, 1980, Washington State) have so many planes been grounded. TMZ got an exclusive interview this week with Tourie and Damien Escobar, brothers who make up the internationally renown Nutt’ But Stringz, who performed live at Dancing with the  Stars on ABC. Taking a break from the show TMZ caught the urban rock violinists just outside the DWTS studios.
When asked who they thought was the best dancer? Both replied in harmony, “Kate Gosselin. She’s a good woman, a good Mom and the most sexy,”  Tourie and Damien answered. TMZ’s Harvey Levin (shaking his head), back in the newsroom, was blown away when he heard Tourie Escobar tell the TMZ news cameraman that He’s ” in love with Kate Gosselin, and would love to date her.”

When they asked who’s the sexiest Dancer on DWTS, both replied Kate Gosselin. “Kate is even sexier than Pamela Anderson,”  said Tourie.  She’s “Pinot.” Levin, back in the newsroom said, “Now you’re losing me, what is Pinot?” Both violinists answer, “A fine wine.”

On Saturday, April 17th, Nuttin’ But Stringz is schedule to be on the French version of America’s Got Talent. Two years ago they were in the top three, when their unique, emotional sound swept American audiences.

It is a benefit event for the American Heart Assn. It will be held at the Hobby Center for Performing Arts in Zilkha Hall.

Although the numbers are staggering, the power to change these statistics lies within all of us to make simple lifestyle changes that can reverse these numbers.
